Our Journey to Jeremiah and the Joy We Never Saw Coming
We struggled with infertility for eight years. Eight years of trying, praying, waiting, and wondering what God had planned for us. Through it all, we knew one thing for sure: God had placed adoption on our hearts.
We had tried other adoption avenues, but we didn’t feel at peace with the situations we encountered. We were looking for something that felt steady, clear, and God-led. That’s when we found ABCFM’s adoption ministry.
We hoped to be matched with a mother who knew she wasn’t able to parent, and who was looking for a family to step in with love and readiness. That gave us peace of mind about the process—and hope for the kind of beginning we were praying for.
Out of the Blue
We were in the adoption process with ABCFM for about a year and a half. We honestly started to wonder if maybe God had something else in store. But then, one day, out of the blue, we got the call: a birth mom had chosen us. I don’t think we’ve ever been more shocked in our lives.
We were told we had about three weeks to prepare before the baby would arrive. We were filled with joy and excitement—ready to finally become a family. But three days later, we got another call: the birth mom was in labor.
We hadn't even bought a car seat or a bassinet yet.
We rushed home and scrambled to get everything ready. Our family stepped in to help, and by the time we arrived at the hospital, just 30 minutes before our son was born, we knew without a doubt that this was meant to be.
We held him in our arms and named him Jeremiah.
God Was in Every Detail
Jeremiah is now 15 months old—and our lives are forever changed. I can honestly say I can’t imagine our lives without him. Just when we thought the story was complete, God surprised us again: three months after bringing Jeremiah home, we found out we were pregnant. Now we also have our sweet baby girl, Jenna.
There’s no other way to explain it: God was in every detail. Even in the little things: when I realized we didn’t have a going-home outfit for Jeremiah, the team at ABCFM got one for us immediately. They also helped us get donor breastmilk to feed him when we arrived home. We were blown away by how cared for we felt.
A Birth Mom’s Love
One of the most beautiful parts of our story has been our connection with Jeremiah’s birth mom. We keep in touch regularly through photos and messages. She’s been such a gift to us, and we’re incredibly grateful for how much she loves Jeremiah and wants to stay part of his life in a healthy way.
We never imagined our adoption journey would look like this, but now we wouldn’t change a thing.
