Moving Closer to Love

Isaiah and Eli’s Journey

Isaiah and Eli entered care on July 24, 2024. Soon after, they arrived in the home of Donna Hamilton, known with affection as Mama Donna. Their sister reunified with her father quickly, while the boys began settling into a new rhythm of safety, routine, and support.

In the early weeks, their parents wrestled with fear, frustration, and the uncertainty that often accompanies the start of a case. Participation came slowly at first. But over time, something shifted. They began showing up for visits, working through their programs, and taking steady steps toward reunification. Their hearts grew determined to do what was needed for their sons.

During their time with Donna, the boys received the support they needed to thrive. Eli, who entered care with delayed speech, began therapy and blossomed. Isaiah gained confidence and stability, and their teachers described them as among the brightest in their class. Donna welcomed their personalities and growth with warmth, patience, and encouragement.

As the family progressed, the question became how to reunify the boys without disrupting the stability they had come to know. In an extraordinary act of love, their parents made a life-changing decision. They chose to relocate to the Monticello area so the boys could remain close to Donna, their school, and the community that had supported them. They found a home and work nearby, setting the stage for a fresh beginning.

When the Court approved trial home placement, there were still a few practical needs to meet. Connected Families stepped in immediately. Beds, bedding, toys, and essentials were gathered and delivered so the home would be fully ready. Isaiah returned home on October 22, 2025. Eli followed on November 7. Even after reunification, the boys continue attending Explorers Academy, and Donna remains a steady, familiar presence in their lives today.

“They were such a blessing to me,” Donna said, reflecting on their time together.
Her care, and the commitment of their parents, built a connection that continues today.
