Jesus sees the unseen
In the familiar story of the feeding of the five thousand, we often focus on the miracle itself. The multiplication. The abundance. The awe of the crowd. But there is a quieter detail that is easy to miss.
Before anyone else even noticed him, Jesus noticed the boy.
Surrounded by thousands of people, leaders, followers, and families, Jesus singled out one child carrying a small lunch. In a culture where children were often overlooked and unnamed, this was no small thing. Jesus did not call on someone powerful or prominent. He did not look for the most qualified or the most impressive. He chose one of the uncounted.
And He did not have to.
Jesus did not need fish to multiply fish. He did not need bread to create abundance. He could have accomplished the miracle in any way He wanted. But He chose to use what a child was willing to place in His hands.
That choice mattered.
It told a watching crowd, and it still tells us today, that God sees the ones others overlook. It reminds us that being small, unseen, or unsure does not disqualify us from being used. In fact, it may be exactly where God begins.
If you have ever thought you do not have enough to offer.
If you have ever wondered whether your contribution really matters.
If you have ever felt counted out.
Jesus says, think again.
That boy was not the only one with food that day. Others had brought what they had. But Jesus chose to invite a child into the miracle. He allowed him to be part of something far greater than he could have imagined.
When we trust what God is doing, when we place what we have in His hands, He does great things with it.
This is the message we want every child and family we serve to hear. Jesus sees you.
And it is a reminder for all of us, too.
Because nobody can count you out when God counts you in.
