A Homecoming to Remember: Celebrating Reunification
When Foster Care is More Than a Placement—It’s a Ministry of Hope
When a one-year-old boy and his newborn sister entered care, the most urgent question was where they would go—and whether they could stay together. Thankfully, a Connected foster family stepped in, welcoming both children into their home, even though it meant a long drive from the children’s home county.
But this wasn’t just a placement. It was a partnership.
From the beginning, the foster family leaned into their role not just as caregivers, but as encouragers. They attended staffings, shared photos and milestones, and began building a bridge to the children’s biological parents.
There were challenges along the way. Uncertainty is a familiar companion in many foster care stories. But the foster family never wavered. With compassion and kindness, they continued supporting the parents and speaking life over their family.
In time, healing came. The biological family turned a corner. And when the day came for the children to go home, it wasn’t a goodbye—it was a celebration.
Weeks after reunification, that same foster family was invited to a birthday party for one of the children—in their biological family’s home.
This is what gospel-centered foster care looks like. It’s not about us. It’s about families. Restoration. Hope.
And at ABCFM, this is the kind of story we pray for every day.
During National Reunification Month, we celebrate every story like this one—and every foster family who opens their home to help make it possible. If you’re wondering how to be part of a ministry like this, we’d love to talk.
