Because of You: A Toy, a Visit, and a Moment of Joy

At the ABCFM Central Office, we regularly host family visits in dedicated spaces where children and their biological parents can spend meaningful time together—whether the child is placed in one of our Connected Families foster homes or in foster care through DCFS.

Recently, during one of those visits, a biological mom quietly told her caseworker, “I normally bring them a toy when we visit, but I was broke this week.”

She didn’t know that just down the hall, volunteers and church partners had already made provision for a moment just like this. Thanks to community support, our Toy Store was stocked and ready.

That mom was able to pick out a few toys—remote control cars and a baby doll—and bring them into the visit. Her daughter opened the new doll and placed it right into the high chair. The floor was quickly covered in packaging, and the room was filled with the kind of noise we love to hear: conversation, laughter, and kids playing with their mom.
